FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HMLP crews respond to winter storm
02/12/06
Hingham- the Hingham Municipal Lighting Plant prepared for this past weekends storm by having its crews available to respond to power outages. The crews arrived at the HMLP Operations center prior to the snow beginning and were ready to respond to customer’s outages. “We brought our crews in just prior to the storm, as we did not want them to have to travel during the storm and possibly delaying response to outages”, said John G. Tzimorangas, General Manager of the Light Plant. The crews ended up responding to a broken pole, caused by a car accident, on Pine Street, early Sunday morning. The crews made the pole and site secure. The other outage during the storm was in the Fort Hill St. and Beal St. areas. A wire started burning on the corner of Beal St. and William Terry Dr. and in order to repair the wire, the Light Plant took an outage so the crews could work on the problem safely. The outage lasted about 40 minutes for the 1000 customers affected in the area. “With the conditions of driving snow and high winds, it was safer to de-energize the circuit, and let the crews work safely and complete the repair. We understand it is difficult to lose power during a storm, but sometimes it is a quicker repair to work on the lines de-energized”, commented Tzimorangas.
