On April 27, 2026, Hingham residents will be asked to continue to move the project forward at Town Meeting by voting to allow HMLP to secure up to $70 million in long-term bonds for the HMLP Reliability Project. This is a critical initiative to ensure the resilience and modernization of the town’s electric system. HMLP is proposing to construct and operate a new transmission line, substation, and tap station to address critical reliability concerns. These investments, authorized at 2022 Town Meeting, are essential for maintaining reliable service and upgrading critical infrastructure.

KNOW BEFORE YOU VOTE:

  • Utility Projects such as the HMLP Reliability Project do not affect the Town’s ability to borrow for any other capital project now, or down the road
  • No taxpayer funding is required for this project.  All project costs will be paid through electric rates over 20- 40 years.
  • No significant rate increase is expected due to this project.
  • Project costs were factored into rate increases over the past several years.  In addition to the long-term bonds and funds from previous rates, HMLP will additionally utilize its reserve funds. With these alternative funding mechanisms and the extended payback period of the bonds, no significant rate increase is anticipated for this project.
