Guide to Going Solar
Since 2008, hundreds of thousands of solar panels have popped up across the country as an increasing number of Americans choose to power their daily lives with the sun’s energy. Thanks in part to the Solar Energy Technologies Office’s investments, the cost of going solar goes down every year. You may be considering the option of adding a solar energy system to your home’s roof or finding another way to harness the sun’s energy. While there’s no one-size-fits-all solar solution, energy.gov has some resources that can help you figure out what’s best for you.
What is Net Metering?
Net Metering is a system in which solar panels or other renewable energy generators are connected to a public-utility power grid and surplus power is transferred onto the grid, allowing customers to offset the cost of power drawn from the utility.
Solar Rebates
HMLP offers a rebate in the form of a check to customers who install and own a photovoltaic system at their homes in Hingham. The amount of the rebate will vary according to the capacity of the photovoltaic system.
Interconnection Application
To start the process of going solar, you’ll need to fill out the interconnection application form. For systems larger than 20 kW (AC), please contact HMLP to request a copy of the application.
