The Hingham Municipal Lighting Plant (HMLP) completed an important step in the study of potential wind power in Hingham with the installation of a 164 foot wind monitoring device, called an anemometer. The HMLP contractor, Lighthouse Electrical Contracting of Pembroke, MA was responsible for the acquisition and installation of the tower, which was installed at the Town of Hingham Landfill on a capped portion of the site.

The installation is proposed to be in place for approximately 12 months, to monitor the available wind resource over each season of weather and allow the HMLP to understand the potential wind resource in the area and allow HMLP to create a financial analysis based on that information to see if a wind turbine would be feasible.
