WATER BILLING SERVICE TRANSITION NOTICE
Dear HMLP and Weir River Water System Customer,
This notice applies only to customers who currently receive and pay a water bill.
Beginning July 1, 2026, Hingham Municipal Lighting Plant (HMLP) will assume responsibility for water billing and payment processing for all Weir River Water System customers. This transition affects billing and payment services only. Your water service will not be interrupted.
WHAT IS CHANGING?
- HMLP will issue all water bills and collect all water bill payments beginning July 1, 2026.
- Water billing will change from quarterly to monthly billing, consistent with HMLP’s electric billing cycle. The first monthly water bill will be mailed on August 1, 2026.
- If you are an HMLP electric customer, your water and electric charges will appear on the same bill.
- If you reside in Hull or Cohasset, HMLP will manage your water billing. Your electric service and billing will remain unchanged.
PAYMENTS
- Pay any outstanding WRWS balances by June 26, 2026. The Veolia payment system will close after that date.
- Beginning July 1, 2026, all water bill payments must be made to HMLP.
- Any outstanding WRWS balance will be transferred to your HMLP account. For combined electric and water accounts, your July 1, 2026 balance will reflect all outstanding electric and water charges. To qualify for the electric discount, the full balance due (electric and water) must be paid by July 15, 2026.
- If you currently pay your HMLP electric bill online, by automatic payment, by mail, or in person, you will use those same payment methods for your water bill.
- If your HMLP electric and water accounts are combined, you may pay any outstanding water balance using the same payment methods you currently use for your electric bill.
- Hull and Cohasset customers will not be able to make water bill payments until they receive their first HMLP bill.
Mail payments should be remitted to: Hingham Municipal Lighting Plant
P.O. Box 9264 Chelsea, MA 02150
AUTOMATIC PAYMENTS
- Automatic payments established through the current Weir River Water System billing system will not transfer to HMLP.
- Customers using automatic payments through the current Weir River Water System billing system must set up a new automatic payment arrangement with HMLP at HMLP.com after receiving their first HMLP bill. However, no action is required if you are a current HMLP electric customer whose water and electric charges are combined on one bill.
- Hull and Cohasset customers may set up automatic payments after receiving their first HMLP bill.
- Automatic payments require a bank account. Credit and debit cards may be used for one-time payments only.
IMPORTANT
- No changes are being made to your water service.
- If you are an HMLP electric customer, your water account number will be the same as your electric account number.
- If you reside in Hull or Cohasset, or if your water account is not combined with an HMLP electric account, you will receive a new account number. Please refer to your first HMLP generated bill for your account information.
