Hingham Light’s Virtual Solar TourĀ

Hingham Light is hosting a virtual solar tour as a part of the National Solar Tour and South Shore Solar Tour! From October to January, you can view photos of HMLP’s large rooftop solar array and battery system online!

We are excited to help amplify the power of solar energy by joining the tour with solar sites from around the country. This Fall, hundreds of people across the nation will show off their solar homes and businesses in-person. HMLP will keep its virtual solar tour online from October through January. Solar owners and supporters will have a chance to connect, ask and answer questions, and participate in a nationwide solar experience.

HMLP’s Rooftop Solar Array

Currently, HMLP’s rooftop holds a 40 kW solar system made up of about 130 panels. An expansion to this system, including more rooftop solar panels and solar canopies in the parking lot, is being designed. HMLP estimates that the system will be approximately 240 kW +/- when the project is completed in the next few years.

HMLP’s Battery System

HMLP’s battery system was commissioned in 2021. The system size is 2 MW and it is a 3-hour battery. The battery is discharged during high demand periods (known as ‘peaks’) to generate savings for HMLP.
